Open House

Blogging fail. I go on a good posting run and then well, I don’t. So here are some quick captures from my house that I’m slowly turning into a home. I’m taking a different approach this time around with how I decorate. I’m trying to work with what I have and selecting pieces that make me pause and not move forward until it’s mine (hmm sorta like dating). Just not pausing a lot for that right now. Anyway, that escalated quickly. Welcome to my home. I promise I’ll let you leave.

After holding onto this console table for nearly ten years I was ready to get rid of it prior to this move, but for now it works and staying put. The art work is an original from a silent action and sets the color palate for the rest of the house. The lamp is one of my all-time favorite vintage finds from a local flea market. It’s original teak wood with a marble base. The other accessories are pieces I’ve collected along the way from California, Mississippi to Crate & Barrel. Yeah that’s where I got that not-real coral from. Or maybe it’s real. Whatever it look good.

So this room. I went around in my head on what to do to make the dining room come together. There are two huge walls and I thought oh sure I’ll just put a mirror up there and call it a day. But I miiiggghhhhhttttt have a mirror (and lamp) obsession so I knew I had to try something different. I have art, photography and mirrors so I figured let’s go with some words. So I went to my friend and co-worker who has some hand-written talent with a bag of In ‘n Out burgers and asked her to help. She obliged and killed it! I’m so in love with this message and how it really completes the room. Table and chairs are Jonathan Adler and I just propped that plant in a Target basket there because it felt right.

Welcome Back

I was traveling back East over the weekend for my sister’s surprise 40th birthday! We totally got her! Now, I’m back in the real world of March Madness. While most are on Spring Break, I’m on deadline at the magazine this week. Brutal. So here’s to a rustic chic entryway to welcome you back. It’s an area of the house that doesn’t get much attention, but should be a place of comfort and joy…welcome home.
